★★★★★5-star rated on GoogleHere's what our clients say, in their own words.
★★★★★
“Unlike my past experience, Virtuous made certain that I was aware of every step, that each and every detail was always explained, and that they checked in with me at every step. I couldn't have asked for a more supportive staff! They made the experience absolutely stress-free.”
★★★★★
“Not only did they help me to become a property owner, they didn't leave my side until I was fully protected. Securing and educating me on my medical, life and critical illness insurance and supporting me through the underwriting process, as I thought no one would be able to get me cover with the complexity of my case.”
★★★★★
“By the end they even arranged a Trust, a Will and understanding of why I needed a LPA, which was new to me… I have recommended my whole family and friends because their passion for legacy really stands out from the rest.”
When a fixed rate ends, most lenders move you straight onto their standard variable rate. In July 2026 the average SVR was 7.13%, against 4.79% for a new two-year fix [1]. That gap costs families thousands a year.
What is an SVR?
SVR stands for standard variable rate. It is your lender's default interest rate. When your fixed, tracker or discount deal comes to an end, your mortgage moves onto it automatically. You don't sign anything or get asked first. It simply happens if you don't arrange a new deal.
It is usually much higher. In July 2026 the average SVR was 7.13%, compared with 4.79% for a new two-year fix [1].
Your lender sets it and can change it. It often moves when the Bank of England changes interest rates, but your lender decides when and by how much. Your monthly payment can go up with little warning.
It is hard to budget around. Because the rate can change, you don't know what you'll pay from one year to the next.
The one upside: you can usually leave at any time. Most lenders don't charge early repayment fees on an SVR, so it's a place to pass through, not to stay.
Example: on a £200,250 mortgage over 25 years, a 4.79% fix costs about £1,146 a month. The same mortgage on a 7.13% SVR costs about £1,432, which is £286 more every month for doing nothing.
6 months before
Start your review. Many lenders let you secure a new rate this early, so you can lock in a deal and still switch if rates fall.
3 months before
Applications, valuations and paperwork take time. Leaving it later than this narrows your options.
The month it ends
A rushed decision often means taking whatever your current lender offers, without comparing the market.
After it ends
You move onto the SVR. On an average mortgage that is around £3,400 more a year until you switch [1].
Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
What could waiting cost you?

Lending criteria vary. All mortgages are subject to the lender's affordability checks and status. Most buy-to-let mortgages are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Mortgage protection
A mortgage but no life insurance? Here's what your family would face.
28% of mortgage holders aged 18 to 40 have no life cover at all, and more than £433bn of UK mortgage debt isn't covered by life insurance [17]. If the worst happened, this is what usually follows.
Your family is left carrying the burden. The mortgage, bills and everyday costs don't stop. The people you love are left to shoulder them on one income or none, at the hardest time of their lives.
Your partner takes on the whole debt.On a joint mortgage, the person left behind is responsible for the full balance. Devastating.
Savings run out fast.49% of households say they would struggle to last two months without their main income [5]. The reality: for many families, the money runs out before the grief does.
The family home is at risk.If payments can't be kept up, the lender can repossess. Children may have to move home and change school while they grieve. No child should have to go through that.
It doesn't stop at money. It can tear a family apart.

Protection 7 ways to cover your family
Life insurance
A lump sum for your family if you die during the policy term, to clear the mortgage, replace income or cover childcare.
Whole of life
Cover that lasts your lifetime, often used to leave an inheritance or help with an inheritance tax bill.
Critical illness
A tax-free lump sum if you are diagnosed with a serious illness covered by the policy, such as many cancers, heart attack or stroke.
Income protection
A monthly income if illness or injury stops you working, paid until you return to work or the policy ends.
Private medical
Faster access to private diagnosis and treatment, so you are not waiting on NHS lists when it matters.
Children's protection
Cover for your children against serious illness and accidents, often added to your own policy at little extra cost.
Mortgage protection
Makes sure the mortgage can be paid off or kept up if you die or can't work, so your family keeps the home.
Estate planning Your legacy, structured
Wills
Decide who inherits, name guardians for your children and protect an unmarried partner.
Lasting powers of attorney
Choose who can make financial and health decisions for you if you lose capacity, without a court application.
Trusts
Help life insurance pay out faster to the right people, outside probate, and potentially outside your estate for inheritance tax. We complete life insurance Trust paperwork free.
Mortgages and remortgages too. First homes, home movers, remortgages and product transfers, with protection reviewed at the same time so your cover always matches your mortgage.
If you couldn't work tomorrow, what would pay the bills?
Your income is your biggest asset. Income protection pays you a monthly income if illness or injury stops you working, so the mortgage, rent and bills still get paid. And yes, it's available if you're self-employed.
Employed£123.25
a week in Statutory Sick Pay, for up to 28 weeks. That's around £534 a month [19].
Self-employed£0
No sick pay at all. Statutory Sick Pay is only for employees on a payroll [19].

people, including around 748,000 in construction, the biggest group of any industry [20].
How income protection helps
A monthly income while you recover. Usually a set share of your earnings, paid until you return to work or the policy ends.
Covers illness as well as accidents. Back problems and joint injuries cause 33% of claims, and mental health 19% [4].
You choose when it starts. Pick a waiting period that fits your savings or sick pay, from day one to several months, to keep the cost down.
Claims get paid. 79% of income protection claims were paid in 2025 [4].
Self-employed? Read this
Some policies don't ask you to prove your income when you claim.
With certain policies, you only need medical proof that you're unable to work. There's no digging out tax returns or accounts while you're unwell. That makes a real difference if your income goes up and down, you're newly self-employed, or you're paid in cash.
Available on selected policies, usually up to a set monthly benefit. Terms, limits and eligibility vary by insurer. We'll explain exactly what you'd need to show before you buy.
Diabetes? High blood pressure? Work on a building site? You can still protect your family.
Our everyday family cover asks no health questions, so conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure or asthma won't stop you applying. It's popular with people in hands-on jobs like construction, trades and driving, where accidents are a real risk, and self-employed people don't need to prove their income.
Maximum benefits at the highest cover level. Applications accepted up to age 64. Claims linked to a pre-existing condition, and sickness-related hospital stays in the first 12 months, may not be covered. We'll talk you through the terms before you decide.
Business protection
You protect your family. Who's protecting your business?
It's the cover most business owners overlook. If you, a partner or a key member of your team died or became seriously ill tomorrow, could the business keep going, pay its debts and keep its people?

Directors & employees
Relevant Life cover
Life insurance for a director or employee, paid for by the company. It can be more tax-efficient than paying for personal cover yourself.
Key people
Key person cover
Pays the business if someone vital dies or is seriously ill, to cover lost profit, recruitment and keeping lenders and customers confident.
Co-owners
Shareholder & partnership protection
Gives the remaining owners the money to buy the shares of a partner who dies or is seriously ill, so control stays with you and their family is paid fairly.
Your team
Group life (death in service)
Pays a lump sum to an employee's family if they die while working for you. A valued benefit that helps you attract and keep good people.
Your team
Group income protection
Replaces part of an employee's salary during long-term sickness, and often includes support to help them back to work.
Business debts
Business loan protection
Clears or covers business loans and personal guarantees if a key owner dies or is seriously ill, so the debt doesn't fall on their family.
Most business owners have never had this explained to them. We'll review your business, show you where the gaps are and explain your options in plain English. The review is free.
Tax treatment depends on your circumstances and HMRC rules, which can change. Relevant Life premiums are not usually treated as a taxable benefit, but this depends on the policy meeting HMRC conditions. Speak to your accountant about the tax position for your business.

Critical illness cover can pay a lump sum if you're diagnosed, so you can focus on getting better instead of the bills. Our family cover also pays up to £25,000 if your child is diagnosed with cancer, and you can add every child for a few pounds a month.
56% of UK adults have no Will [7]. Without an LPA, families can be locked out of bank accounts and property while they apply to the Court of Protection. Probate cases taking over a year rose from 377 in 2019 to 2,328 in 2024 [7].
No Will?
If you die without a Will, the law decides. Not you.
The intestacy rules in England and Wales set out who inherits, in a fixed order. They don't care who you meant to look after.
Your partner could get nothing.Unmarried partners have no right to inherit, however long you've been together. 47% of people wrongly believe "common law marriage" protects them, and around 3.5 million couples live together unmarried [7].
A court could choose who raises your children.Without a Will naming guardians, the decision about who looks after your children may end up in front of a judge.
Your children inherit everything at 18.Whatever they're due is handed to them outright on their 18th birthday, ready or not.
Your family waits, and pays.Sorting an estate without a Will takes longer and costs more, and it's a common cause of family fallouts. With no close relatives, everything can go to the Crown.
Marriage, divorce & your Will
Got married since you made your Will? You may not have one any more.
56% of UK adults don't know that getting married cancels an existing Will in England and Wales [13].
Marriage cancels it
Getting married wipes out your old Will
Unless it was written specifically with that marriage in mind, your Will is automatically revoked the day you marry or form a civil partnership. If you don't make a new one, the intestacy rules take over.
Divorce doesn't
Getting divorced leaves your Will in place
Your Will stays valid after a divorce, and your ex is treated as if they had died. But if you're separated and not yet divorced, your spouse can still inherit everything your Will leaves them, and still act as your executor.
A true story
Joan was 91 and living with dementia. She had made a Will leaving everything to her children. Then a man more than 20 years younger quietly married her, and that one ceremony cancelled her Will. Her estate went to him, and her daughter Daphne only found out afterwards.
Joan did the right thing and wrote a Will. Have you checked that yours still stands?
No Trust? Your family could lose a share to tax, delays or someone else.
A Trust lets you decide exactly who receives your money, and when. Without one, here is what can go wrong.
Inheritance tax at 40%.Above the £325,000 tax-free allowance (plus up to £175,000 if your home goes to your children or grandchildren), estates pay 40%. These allowances are frozen until April 2031 [15], and from April 2027 unused pensions will count towards your estate too [16]. IHT receipts are forecast to reach £9bn in 2025/26 [15].
The payout gets stuck in probate.Life insurance that isn't in Trust is paid into your estate, so your family can't touch it until probate is granted. Probate cases taking over a year rose from 377 in 2019 to 2,328 in 2024 [7].
Did you know your children can be disinherited "sideways"?If your partner remarries after you die, their marriage cancels their Will. Everything, including what you left them, could pass to their new spouse and that family, leaving your own children with nothing.
Your life insurance can push you over the limit.A payout that isn't in Trust counts as part of your estate, so it can create a tax bill your family wasn't expecting. See the example below.

Life insurance in Trust
You have life insurance. But will it reach your family?
Fewer than 1 in 5 new term life policies were written in Trust in 2023 [18]. Most people were handed the Trust forms with their policy, didn't understand them, and never looked at them again. That one missing form can change who gets the money, when, and how much.
It's paid into your estate, not to your family.Without a Trust, the insurer pays your estate. Nobody can touch the money until probate is granted, which can take months or longer, while the mortgage and bills keep coming.
It could be taxed at 40%.The payout counts as part of your estate, so it can push your family over the inheritance tax threshold, as the example above shows.
It could go to the wrong person. If you have no Will, or an out-of-date one, the payout follows the intestacy rules or your old wishes. That could mean an ex-partner or a new spouse rather than your children.
Debts get paid first.Money in your estate can be used to settle debts before your family receives anything. A Trust keeps the payout separate.
Your children can't control it until 18.Without trustees you've chosen, money for young children can get tied up. A Trust names the people you trust to look after it for them.
Nobody may know to claim.Trustees you name know the policy exists and can claim it quickly. Without them, policies can sit forgotten.

Many lenders let you secure a new rate up to six months before your current deal ends. Starting then gives you time to compare options and avoid moving onto your lender's standard variable rate.
What is a standard variable rate (SVR)?
An SVR is your lender's default interest rate. When your fixed or tracker deal ends, your mortgage moves onto it automatically unless you arrange a new deal. It is usually much higher than the rates on new deals, and your lender can change it at any time, so your payments can rise with little warning. You can usually leave an SVR without an early repayment charge, which is why it's worth switching as soon as you can.
How much does a review cost?
Your discovery call and protection review are free, with no obligation. If a fee applies for mortgage advice, we confirm it in writing before any work begins.
I already have life insurance. Why review it?
Cover taken out years ago may no longer match your mortgage, income, family or health. A review checks the amount, the term, whether it is written in Trust, and whether newer cover fits better. We will never suggest cancelling a policy before new cover is in place.
Do I need a Will if I don't own much?
Yes. A Will lets you name guardians for your children, choose who receives what you do have, and protect an unmarried partner, who receives nothing under the intestacy rules in England and Wales.
What is a lasting power of attorney?
An LPA lets people you trust make decisions about your finances or your health if you lose capacity. Registering one costs £92. Without one, your family may need to apply to the Court of Protection, which costs £400 to apply and can take months [7].
I've been turned down for cover before. Can you help?
Often, yes. Insurers assess health, weight, occupation and past claims differently, and some specialise in cover others decline. We search a wide panel, including specialist insurers. If you already have a quote, send it over and we'll aim to beat or match it like for like.
Why should my life insurance be written in Trust?
Without a Trust, the payout goes into your estate. It can be delayed by probate, may count towards inheritance tax, can be used to pay debts first and may not reach the people you intended. A Trust lets the money go straight to the people you choose, usually much faster. We complete the insurer's Trust paperwork for free, including for many existing policies.
Does getting married or divorced affect my Will?
Yes. In England and Wales, marriage or a civil partnership automatically cancels an existing Will unless it was made in contemplation of that marriage. Divorce doesn't cancel your Will, but your ex is treated as if they had died. If you are only separated, your spouse can still inherit, so review your Will after any big change.
Can you help if I have poor credit?
Often, yes. Lenders assess people differently, so searching a wide panel matters. Tell us your situation on the call and we will be upfront about your options.
